These are extremely important topics today, and are no longer just the domain of a few people but should be the concern of as many people as possible
Trees and forests are vital to the existence and well-being of our environment. They help improve soil stabilization and erosion control, especially in mountainous and hilly regions; they improve the quality of the air that we breathe, they protect and conserve water supplies and prevent floods. They are providers of food and shelter for human beings and wildlife. Trees and forests help control the climate by absorbing CO2 and by generating O2.Trees also provide a lot of products: carbonized and fossilized wood (coal) supplies fuel for energy needs…
Planting trees helps making up for the loss human beings have caused the planet and ourselves through the destruction of forests areas over the centuries. China has already recognized the importance of tree planting as both a practical means to conserving the environment and as an effective awareness raising activity. Since the early 1980s, China has set March 12th as its National Tree Planting Day – a national voluntary tree-planting campaign.
51Tree was developed to increase public awareness – particularly among students – of the basic "common knowledge" of tree planting, forest coverage, carbon sinks and renewable energies as well as to have a real-life impact on some of the world’s most-tree deprived regions
We set out to make a game that was fun and educational. A game that gave students and young adults something different to do after class or work, to share with their friends and family, that taught them on the importance of tree, carbon sinks, renewable energies and that enabled them to create change by increasing tree-coverage in some of the world’s most tree-deprived regions
